Eastern Copperheads
Eastern Copperheads
Page in progress... Thank you for your patience!
Copperhead snakes are venomous pit vipers, can grow up to 4 feet in length. They have somewhat of a chucky body and a pattern resembling Hershey's kisses. Named for the copper color on top of their heads, they inhabit the southern and eastern regions of the United States.
Copperheads are part of the pit viper family that is determined by heat-sensing pits between their nostrils and eyes, enabling them to detect prey's body heat. Their slit pupils enhance night vision, though they can also dilate to be round. Therefore, identifying venomous snakes based on eye shape is unreliable; use other characteristics instead.
